New Dominican ID Centers Launch April 2026 with Extended Hours

April 12, 2026Dominican Today

Dominican residents and long-term visitors will have significantly improved access to identity document services beginning April 12, 2026, according to Dominican Today.

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) will launch a comprehensive network of over 190 locations across the country dedicated to processing the updated identity and electoral cards. JCE president Román Jáquez Liranzo outlined plans for three distinct service tiers designed to accommodate varying citizen needs.

Expanded Service Options

The new system features standard facilities operating weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., with weekend availability from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Premium service locations and round-the-clock centers will also be established to ensure maximum accessibility.

Impact for Expats and Visitors

This expansion could significantly benefit foreign residents seeking to update their documentation or complete residency requirements. The extended operating hours, including weekend service, address previous complaints about limited availability that often conflicted with work schedules.

Long-term expats who need to maintain current identification for banking, property ownership, or other legal matters should find the process more convenient with nearly 200 centers available nationwide.

The rollout represents the Dominican Republic's effort to modernize its identification system while improving citizen services. Visitors planning extended stays or considering permanent residency may want to note these enhanced processing capabilities when planning their documentation needs.
