Breeze Airways Launches Nonstop Tampa–Punta Cana Flights

New Direct Route Connects Tampa to Punta Cana

Travelers heading to the Dominican Republic from Florida's west coast have a new option on the table. Breeze Airways is launching nonstop service between Tampa International Airport and Punta Cana, expanding its growing Caribbean network and giving DR-bound visitors a faster, layover-free alternative to reach the country's eastern beach resorts.

According to Caribbean Journal, the low-cost leisure carrier announced two new routes from Tampa, with Punta Cana joining Costa Rica as the latest additions. The carrier is positioning itself as a budget-friendly option for sun-seekers who previously had to connect through Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Orlando to reach the Dominican Republic's most-visited resort zone.

Why This Matters for DR Travelers

For anyone living in or visiting the Tampa Bay region — including Sarasota, St. Petersburg, and surrounding Gulf Coast communities — the new nonstop dramatically cuts down door-to-door travel time. Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is the main gateway for Bávaro, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto, and Bayahibe, which together host the bulk of the country's all-inclusive resorts.

Direct service also tends to bring down overall fare averages on a route, since travelers no longer need to stitch together connecting itineraries. For snowbirds, second-home owners along the DR's east coast, and families planning all-inclusive getaways, the addition is a meaningful convenience upgrade.

What to Know Before Booking

  • Airport: Flights operate into Punta Cana International (PUJ), not Santo Domingo or La Romana.
  • Entry requirements: U.S. travelers still need a valid passport, and the Dominican electronic entry/exit form (E-Ticket) must be completed online before arrival.
  • Tourist card: The standard tourist card fee remains bundled into most airline tickets.
  • Best for: Beach resort stays in Bávaro, Cap Cana, and Uvero Alto; excursions to Saona Island; and golf trips along the eastern coast.

Breeze has been steadily expanding its Caribbean footprint over the past couple of years, and this Tampa-to-Punta Cana addition reinforces the trend of secondary U.S. airports gaining direct links to the DR. Travelers should check Breeze's website for exact launch dates, frequencies, and introductory fares.
